1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Eureka ("the Game"), an inductive reasoning card game operated by Neumann's Workshop, LLC ("we", "us", or "our"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Game.

2. Description of Service

Eureka is a free, open-source card game where 1-4 players use empirical hypothesis testing (hypothetico-deductive reasoning) to uncover hidden rules. The Game includes:

  • Solo and multiplayer modes (1-4 players)
  • 32 playable rules with varying difficulty
  • AI opponents with 4 personalities
  • Real-time multiplayer via WebSocket
  • Progress tracking stored locally

3. License and Usage

Eureka is licensed under the Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 4.0 license. This means:

  • Free for non-commercial use - Play, share, and modify for personal/educational purposes
  • Attribution required - Credit Neumann's Workshop, LLC when sharing
  • Share-Alike - Modifications must use the same license
  • No commercial use - Commercial licensing available by request

4. Data and Privacy

Local Storage Only:

  • All game progress is stored locally in your browser
  • We do not collect or store personal data on our servers
  • Multiplayer uses temporary session IDs only
  • Clear your browser cache to reset game data

5. Game Heritage

Eureka is inspired by the Eleusis family of inductive reasoning games, originally created by Robert Abbott in 1956. We acknowledge and respect the legacy of:

  • Eleusis (1956) - Robert Abbott
  • New Eleusis (1977) - Robert Abbott with Martin Gardner
  • Eleusis Express (2006) - John Golden

This implementation includes original mechanics, rules, and AI systems developed by Neumann's Workshop, LLC.

6. User Conduct

When using Eureka, you agree to:

  • Not attempt to exploit, hack, or disrupt the service
  • Not use the Game for commercial purposes without permission
  • Respect other players in multiplayer sessions
  • Provide attribution when sharing or modifying the Game

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE GAME IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

8. Limitation of Liability

IN NO EVENT SHALL NEUMANN'S WORKSHOP, LLC BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE GAME.
